About THE DEER PROJECT
The Deer Project is a conservation-led initiative based in Petworth, West Sussex, focused on ethically managing wild fallow deer to restore balance to local woodlands. With deer populations at record highs, overgrazing threatens biodiversity and young tree growth. Working alongside partners like Natural England, the project reduces ecological damage while supplying sustainable, locally sourced venison.
Each animal is responsibly culled, fully traceable, and part of a wider mission: supporting woodland regeneration, local food systems, and community access to high-quality meat. A portion of the venison is donated to food banks, reinforcing the project’s commitment to both environmental and social good.
